Vision Builder 3.0 bug prevents import of user VI

Vision Builder 3.0.1 allows the user to import a user VI. This VI must be saved out in labview 8.0.1. I've got Labview 8.6. when I "save for previous version" to a labview 8.0 compatible format using labview 8.6, Vision builder 3.0.1 happily lets me browse to the saved VI and then stupidly declares "There is no VI at the path you specified."

Paint me blue and call me smurfy. I see from the forums that this bug was present in the previous version of Vision Builder as it also had compatibility issues when attempting to use converted VIs. Is there any reasonable way around this?

Hi Root Canal

This is a fairly common issue with Vision Builder for Automated inspection. When you save a VI to a previous version it still hasn't compiled the code in that version yet. To compile the code you will need to open the code in 8.0.1 first and save it. Alternatively you could also update vision builder to version 3.6 which functions with LabVIEW 8.6 code. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you! I had no idea that there was a new vision builder. I assumed I had the most recent copy because I used the uber-update dvds that Labview sent out with version 8.6 on them and I let the installer loose to install everything. Now I am frightened that the installer did not install the most recent versions of some software onto my computer. What went wrong? do I need to check all of the installed components individually to make sure that they have been updated? is there an easy way to do that?

Thanks,

-root

Hi Root

I recommend checking under Measurement and Automation Explorer to confirm that software has been updated. I think the reason why Vision Builder did not update could possibly be that it was not on the installation DVD's you used. I believe the DVD should feature updates relating to LabVIEW 8.6 such as Vision Development Module in this case. Other software we supply may need to be installed separately still.

Thank You
