Wanted: Data historian recommendation (i.e. DSC replacement)

The data collected and generated by an application is often its most important purpose. This is certainly true for our LabVIEW application, which runs 24/7 at biotech companies. We have used DSC for a long time, and want to replace it (long story, but I'd be happy to explain more in a different thread).

What is the best modern way to store and retrieve that valuable data? Here is a list of our needs.

Historian Requirements

1. Reliable, robust, 24/7 operation
2. Secure data, protected access
3. Central repository with distributed local data sources OR distributed local repositories that can share their data
4. Automatic cache & recover from local data sources after connection interrupted & restored
5. View data from anywhere on the network
6. Automatic archiving (backup) to remote location
7. Any number of tags (data sources), 10 to 10,000 or more (prefer not priced by tag)
8. Numeric (double) required; string & other data types desired
9. Alarms on tag value limits (absolute or %)
10. Other attributes of value would be useful, e.g. quality, name
11. Data compression (e.g. tag deadbands) for compact storage
12. Fast retrieval of large amounts of data
13. Read/Write single value or read/write arrays (trend)
14. Read/Write timestamp with value, but if missing, stamp with current time
15. Robust error handling, recovery, and reporting
16. LabVIEW interface possible
17. Standard interface (SQL, OPC, XML?) for read/write by 3rd party apps
18. Reasonable licensing pricing

Citadel maybe? I know it's part of DSC, so probably not what you want. But it should be able to stand on it's own. Not sure if you can (or have to)  purchase it...

I'd guess that any OPC Historian (google) would try to tick those requirements. Not sure how successful they are, you're list is quite long...

As a long time DSC (Citadel) user, I can understand your want/need to replace it. I've recently been playing with InfluxDB and its companion products which look promising, and something I'm considering as a Citadel replacement for future projects.

OT: I wish we could go back to websites that actually gave information. It seems to be the trend, but I get seasick from those kinds of websites... Not sure how I can objectively choose between or decide on a product when all the websites are only flashing one-liners around. Probably just me getting old.
