What is the little square?

Look to me like a front panel with size 0,0.

Could you poll VI-server and ask for open VI's and their size? I have no idea how these pop-up but maybe the getting started window is hijacked?

Ton

I am not exactly sure how to do that... I did try to open an application reference and wired the output to a property node where I asked for "All VIs In Memory" and it only returned the one that I ran it on. Nothing else.

The getting started window works great and everything else. Just the annoying square.. This happens even with just the RTE. If I launch NI Spy which is built with LabVIEW I get the square. If I launch LabVIEW, I get the square...

Maybe this is the solution to the Square Division Coding Challenge someone posted recently?

I've gotten that square ever since I loaded LabVIEW 8.0 (now using 8.2). It shows up when I load LV 7.1 now. As soon as I start LabVIEW. I ws wondering if it had something to do with one of the new DAQmx or VISA drivers that was loaded.

BTW. It's blue on my screen and after playing with the window settings, it is the colour of the title bar in a window. When I changed to a green colour scheme, the square became green.

Robert and all,

Perhaps it would be beneficial to find out if it has to do with a driver or a driver.  If you have two computers that have LabVIEW but one does not have the small square, see if there are software differences between them.  Perhaps you would even be able to make the software installations the same.  This may show if the square follows a certian hardware configuration or a software configuration.

Do you see this same little square on a non-dual monitor computer?

I know this square is more of an annoyance than an actual problem, but I am also curious about why it occurs.

Almost impossible to do that since the square is on my development machine... But it doesn't seem to be driver related but more likely the video card/driver or something. It happens on any LabVIEW application (i.e., NI Spy 2.4) or with the ADE. I have seen it in all versions of LabVIEW on this machine.

Is it concievable that NI is not aware of the this little anomaly?

Alan,

Well, now we are aware of the issue. Smiley Very Happy

We are currently investigating this anomaly.  So far I have noticed that it seems to occur on some dual monitor systems.  I will let you know when I have more information.  If you have seen the square on a non dual monitor system, please let me know.

One more thing that I did notice. This also seems to happen with CVI, albeit slightly differently. I do get a non=movable square in the middle of the screen of my primary monitor when I launch CVI 7.1 (only version I have installed). However, instead of being a box with a size of ~0x0, it is probably 15x15. The titlebar seems to reflect the name of the open workspace. (i.e., if I change the name of the workspace, the title of the square changes too).

Could it be a shrunken project window?  I don't  have it on my machine so I'm just guessing.

Just the obvious suggestion:

try closing everything on your computer that you can, including those danged "terminate stay resident" programs on the system tray. The take a look at the windows task manager and see what all is running.

Also, is everyone running nVidia display adapters... I am and don't have the problem, but I am on the most current nVidia driver. I don't like card manufacturers drivers, so I go straight to nVidia.
