When opening a VI, it keeps asking me to locate the same VI.

I have been given a couple of VI's and several subVI's to modify. When I try opening the VI's I get a prompt to "Please find the VI named ..." asking for the same VI over and over again. This continues until I hit cancel, in which case the VI does not open at all. Please help me diagnose/resolve this. Thanks.

It sounds like that VI is used numerous times in the program and doesn't know where it is. Try opening that vi first, then your main application. you will be asked to save when you close everything out.

Hi, u could try saving the vi and sub vi's as a library (.llb). Then it automatically knows where the sub vi's are as they are saved as the same library file and won't ask to know where they are.

I am only trying to open a VI not an application when this happens. It does not open the VI at all.

since today, i have exactly the same problem with my main vi.
I think windows did not manage to save the vi properly last time I saved it.

when trying to double click the icon or to open it via labview, the ''please find the vi named ''xxx.vi'' dialog box appears. I choose the right vi and the dialog box pop up again. and so on.

The file exist and is 1.6 MB.
I tried to change its name and to change its location on the disk or to open it from another pc. nothing works.
I don't know what to do. The latest previous version I have need one week work to be updated!

Isn't there anything from NI to solve this labview 7 bug? Thank you for your support.

hi,
just go to search and find location of the vi's asked, now, after knowing the tracing the location, just go to select a vi option in all functions and replace the concerned vi.

Does the vi that is being searched for exist on your machine? If not, what is the namve of the vi that is being searched for? Are the vis that you're trying to modify written in the same version of LabVIEW that you're trying to edit them in? Based on what you've said so far it appears that you may be missing a subvi which is used multiple times within your main vis, possibly due to either a vi which was not included with the vis that you recieved or a vi that has been updated in a newer version of LabVIEW. Answers to these questions should help in more accurately diagnosing your problem.

Yes the vi exists in the right folder. all my vis are written with Labview 7.0

No vis are missing because before the last save everything was working well. Labview did not manage to save it properly last time. now, when you double click the vi icon, it begins asking you to locate this same vi on the disk. and so on. it's also impossible to choose this vi as a subvi for another main vi.

benoit,

I have seen your post on other questions and understand that you have a problem which has not been resolved. However, it is not clear that the problem which artoon is having is the same problem which you are having. I understand your frustration as I have been victim of corrupted files in the past due to crashes, but this forum is not designed for you to vent your frustrations. This forum is made up of people like you who are LabVIEW programmers and are willing to take a little time out of their busy schedule to help out a fellow programmer. Unfortunately some questions do not have an easy answer. Please allow artoon to answer these questions for himself so that we can see if he is having the same problem as you are.
