An alternative, in some cases, would be to use the handy Read Delimited Spreadsheet vi and then remove the BOM from the (0,0) element.

On the other side, since the BOM is standardized, it should be possible to implement this feature into the Read Delimited Spreadsheet vi itself.

In principle, an UTF-8 file could contain multibyte characters, so it would not be a fail safe functionality.
