Where is the "Scale & Map" VI called for in the Express Getting Started?

I have been trying to do the examples in "Getting Started with LabVIEW" and got stopped cold in the first example. It says to z'select the Scaling and Mapping Express VI on the Arithmetic & Comparison palette..." This VI is not only not on the palette but a query in the Help system says it is not available in the Base, i.e. Express, version. What gives? This is a bad omen if there is a hang up on page 9 of "Getting Started...". How many other VI's are not available in the Base version? Is there a listing of the VIs each version has so an adequate comparision can be done? Did we buy the wrong version?

The basic differences between the various versions can be found here. I don't know if there's a listing for individual functions. Whether you bought the wrong version is dependent on what you need to do. Some of the functions in the full or pro version you may never need. With the base version you can do DAQ, instrument control, display the results, save data to files. The base version lacks the advanced analysis tools like FFTs, statistics, filters, windowing. It also lacks the event structure which is very nice for user interface development.

Thank you for pointing me to the information.

Yet, I still don't know whether the subject VI that is referred to in the "Getting Started..." is actually provided as part of the package. I have not found a listing of VI's provided in the Express (Base) version. I expected the first example in the "Getting Started..." would only use VI's that are supplied with the purchased version and was perplexed when I was foiled by either improperly written documentation or incorrectly supplied software.

My comment about whether the correct version was purchased was based on the information supplied when I received a quote from NI. It is possible I was optimistic about what the Express (Base) version capabilites are. My appliation needs are modist, basically driving a rotary stage and triggering a "smart" device to take and report data that would be logged into a file for later crunching.

jaa,

You bring up an excellent point and I agree with you completely. We did a very poor job of documenting this fact in the Getting Started manual for LabVIEW 7.0, but it has since been brought to our attention, and we have made changes to future versions to help with any confusion. To my knowledge, that exercise should be the only one in the Getting Started manual with non-Base features in it, so you should be able to complete the rest of it without any problem. I apologize for the inconvenience and confusion, but please know that we are working to eliminate the issue in the future. Thank you for the feedback!

Kind Regards,
