Which CD or download do I need to use to run IEEE 1394 for Vision/IMAQ?

Hi All,

I am stuck trying to install the IEEE 1394 drivers for vision acquisition. I have tried all the CDs and the core CDs containing the vision and IMAQ tools don't install because I recently updated vision and IMAQ via downloads from this site. I cannot pick drivers in enough detail using the custom install options to allow me to do it, so what can I do? Each time I use the CD it says:

The NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection 3.5.1 installation is complete.
If you want to use Vision Builder AI with a National Instruments image acquisition device. such
as a frame grabber or IEEE 1394 or GigE interface card. install the NI Vision Acquisition
Software CD included with Vision Builder AI.
It is not necessary to install NI Vision Acquisition Software to use Vision Builder AI with remote
targets. such as the NI 17xx Smart Cameras. NI CVS-1450 Series Compact Vision Systems. or
NI EVS-1460 Series Embedded Vision Systems.

In other words, it's telling me to use a CD that I don't have, and yet I seem to have installed all the vision tools except for the IEEE 1394 drivers.

Hi my fellow MadScientist!

I would first guess these drivers include the said support:

NI Vision Acquisition Software 2011.03 - Windows 7 64 bit/7 x86/Server 2003/XP/Server 2008 x64/Vista x64/Vista x86/Server 2008

If you'd like to post up a "MAX Report" then I should be able to take a look through and get a clear picture of what might be missing. Then I'll have a search around the website to try and find that particular part.

To create a MAX Report, in Measurement and Automation eXplorer go to File>>Create Report>>Technical Support, and there's no need to include any supporting files. Then just upload the ZIP file to this forum post. It's the HTML file in there that I will be able to look through to find the details of successfully installed NI software.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to helping out.

Thanks for the MAX Report.

Support for IEEE 1934 is rolled up in the IMAQdx driver since 2009. By your MAX Report, I would say that it's already installed and that you are ready to go. Are you able to interface, detect or interact with your device?

Unless that is you are planning to use the older legacy IMAQ driver with an older device. In that case then check out this link for the legacy driver which has been seperated out of the vision package:

Let me know how you get along.

Hi Rhys,

I cannot detect the camera, but it is shown under my hardware list in My Computer. The only camera driver I installed is one the manufacturer gave on their website, they made it specifically for use with Labview. I can't attach it as it's a ".exe" installer. It's for Jenoptik Firewire cameras.

Thanks for the link, I will try the legacy driver when I next have the camera with me, and I'll get back to you.
