I headed a european companys IT infrastructure for a couple of years, as part of my job; I don't speak lightly. I must say that I am gald to be out of it though. It wasn't the job it, was the attitudes; when the chance came to 'jump ship' I leapt with no thought for a life belt.
Users never felt they got enough support, control for reliability was seen as restrictive and security was 'stopping them from working'. Management always had better places to spend thier budget and accountants still think they know all about IT. The moneys not so good now but life is a lot better and far more relaxed.
and I get to poke fun at IT people epecially when they say 'what do you know', I just smile. Finally I discoverd what I believe to be a basic truth, some learn to feed themselves and others will always need spoon feeding.

P.S. If the reply helped, consider spending five of those stars that you have in your budget.
