Which steps are necessary to use Agilent 82357A USB/GPIB Interface with NI MAX 4.0?

Hi everyone!

I´m currently facing a problem which I can´t find its solution!
I need to use an Agilent 82357A USB/GPIB Interface with NI MAX and I can´t make it happen ! I´ve already tried the steps given by other  users who faced the same problem but it didn´t work, i.e., I installed Agilent driver as secondary VISA and checked the NiVisatullip.dll option under the Tools > NI - VISA > VISA Options > My System > General Settings > Passports. What is going wrong? Should I use another version of NI-VISA? Of NI- MAX? Of Agilent driver? Geez ... it should be such a simple task to do ...

As always with you guys, any help provided will be deeply appreciated!

I called NI with the same problem here is the info they relayed back:

Here's the knowledge base I was referring to, entitled "How Do I See My

Agilent 82357A GPIB-USB Interface in MAX/LabVIEW?"

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/F7C187DBF09EBE1186256F550065BD32?OpenDocument

Please follow the related links, as they tell you how to enable the HPIB in MAX, then how to interface that in LabVIEW.

Also, the link for the VISA drivers can be found here: (fill out the appropriate fields)

http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/MainPage?ReadForm&node=132010_US

Good luck with that, and let us know if you have any other questions! Like I said, it's a workaround (which means it will be more difficult), but it appears to be possible at least.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi Giovani:

First, thanks for sending out those links Mandy.  I managed to get my hands on an 82357A here just to test it out.  I installed Agilent I/O Libraries Suite 14.0 (the only one I have) and I have NI-VISA 3.4.1 and MAX 4.0.  After enabling the tulip passport I was able to communicate with my instrument.

You will not be able to see this interface under devices and interfaces in MAX.  In order to communicate in MAX, you will have to go to Tools->NI-VISA->VISA Interactive Control.  From here you should see your GPIB interface under the list of resources.
