Chris,
The MSI Error implies that the Microsoft Installer(MSI) Engine crashed. This is the software that handles all installation and uninstallation on your computer.
I am assuming you are using Windows 2000. If so you can download and install the MSI engine from Microsoft here.
Just download and run the installer and it will install MSI engine 2.0
