Why do I get a 10800 from AO Control when I try continuous analog output?

I am trying to write a waveform to the analog output of my AT-MIO-16E-1. Whether I write my own VI or use the continuous output examples, I get the timeout error (10800 from AO Control). I can write single points no problem, and the test panel continuous sinewave works fine. I am using LabView 6.0 , NI-DAQ 6.9, Windows 98SE.

You are doing something wrong then. Try looking at the AO examples and compare with your code to find out what you are doing wrong. If you still can't figure it out, then post the code, and we will try to help further.

Well, actually the example VI's do it as well as my code... generate continuous waveform, generate sine wave, continuous update... anything that writes using a buffered VI gives me this error.

NI support has suggested increasing the buffer size, but that doesn't seem to help... at least not when I change it in the control panels of the example VI's.
