Why do waveforms show garbage in the plot legend and why is no one mentioning this?

I have tried this on multiple machines and the result is the same. The plot legend expands and shrinks with garbage characters each time the waveform is updated.
Sometimes the plot legend expands to as many as 100 garbage characters (or more). Is NI aware of this?

"... and why is no one mentioning this?"

I will speak for myself and say that I have never seen this.

Could you please post an example that demonstates this behaviour?

If there is a problem, I want to know about it.

What version of LV?

Is it a chart or a graph?

Curious and trying to help,

Hi Ben
Ok I managed to get a small enough version of it to zip it up and show what happens. I hope the demo is intact enough to show the plot legend.

just run the VI "0_bloat-OVEN.vi"
It uses a simulation file for the waveform but if u have a DAQ bd just uncheck the "Simulate DAQ bd?" button.
Ive seen this on 3 machines now WIn 98 WIn XP and Win2K.

What are the channel names as defined in MAX?

...or

Right click on chart.

select "plots" tab.

Click the "Do Not Use Waveform Names for Plot Names".

The reason I never saw this is that this is a new property (to me).

I used to have to set these values explicitly.

I hope this help,

Hello

I tested your program and , if channels have no name, results for plot name are garbage as you state.
If you name channels , the names are ok, since plot name is a waveform attribute.
I never found this problem because I use named and configured channels by means of NI-MAX, but I guess this shoud not happen if name of channel is empty.

My test setup: NI-MAX 3.1 / LV 7.1 / NI-DAQ 7.2 / PCI 6052E

Hope it helps.

I gotta admit
You guys are all pretty sharp.
IT never occured to me to use Max or to even look at the chart properties.
Thanks for helping clear up this mystery for me.

I have a group of CLD I mentor and support that have a running joke going.

It seesm all of my answers start with one of the following phrases.

1) "In the old days....."
2) "Flip it over." (i.e. show diagram)
3) "Show VI Hiarchy."
4) "Right-click"

Many mysteries in LV can be answered by starting with a right-click.

Ain't LV cool!
