Why doesn't a remote database appear under Citadel Universe / Network?

I installed LV DSC RTS 7.0 on a Win XP machine and it is successfully logging data to a Citadel 5 database. I would like to view these traces from a remote machine on the same network. On the remote machine I am running Win 2K and have the same software installed (LV DSC RTS 7.0). On the remote machine, when I open MAX and select Historical Data > Citadel 5 Universe and browse the "network" icon, I can see several other computers on the network that also have the DSC RTS software installed, but not the one I am interested in. I am able to browse to the machine of interest through windows explorer, but not through MAX. The computers are both on the same domain. Another related problem is that on the local machine, I cannot see any other computers through the MAX browser, even though the local database appears correctly. What are some possible causes of this behavior?

Hello Chris,

The computers that are visible from the remote machine running Win2k? (I am sure you would have checked this aspect but still wanted to double-check). Also, I was wondering if the XP machine in question has SP2. If so please disable the firewall or even better uninstall SP2 and see what happens.

Also try logging in as administrator in both machines. Other than this I am stumped right now, but will look into this more depending on your reply.

Regards,

Thanks for the idea. I checked and found that the machine serving up the database does in fact have XP SP2 installed. I disabled the firewall completely, and that solved the problem. (At first, I just unchecked the LAN connection under the Advanced Tab of the Firewall applet, but that did not do the job, I had to turn it off completely from the General Tab.)

I also found this relevent information:
