Unfortunately, copying it to the hard drive first will not help at all. If you really must use those versions, you can instead browse to the \Distributions sudirectory on your DVD, find the product you are interested in, and run the setup.exe located in that folder.

Hello,
I know your post is from years ago, but I am currently having this exact issue with the NI Developer Suite (professional) from the second quarter of 2009 on a windows 7 64b machine. Is there no workaround for this issue in my case either?
Thanks!

You would be doing yourself a HUGE favor if you could somehow get a hold of a version of LabVIEW that supports Win7. My personal experience is that even if you get it to install, there will be many times when something doesn't work and you spend days (and sometimes weeks) working with vendors trying to figure out some kludge to get it to work - if it ever does - when all that time could've been used to do useful coding instead... Better to cough up the bucks for an upgrade than wasting the same amount in man-hours fixing issue after issue only to find a problem you can't overcome and then have to spend the money for an upgrade anyway...

Well this may seem funny but I've already got 2011 and 2012, I just wanted to work in 8.6 because I just got assigned to work on an old project that was developed on a XP machine...
Thanks for the response and advice!

Ugh, does it HAVE to be upgraded to Win7? I can't remember if WinXP is either already not supported or soon will be, but if the PC isn't going to be hooked up to the network, it might be a good option not to fix what's not broke. 🙂

No the system is ok running on XP as far as I know, it's just that I would like to be able to work on the SW on my dev laptop when Im not on site...
According to this chart:
http://info-labview.org/LabVIEW%20Version%20Compatibility.pdf
It doesnt look like it would be problem to upgrade te system to win 7 and end up using 2011 or something if it comes to it (as long as customer will fork over the upgrade cost )
EDIT: aw crap looks like im wrong: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/nidaq32-dll-error-using-Windows-7/td-p/2065838 I get an error trying to open up the code in 2011... then it crashes haha

I feel your pain and have the EXACT issue as a lot of the code I work on is LV 7.1 and I was forced to upgrade my PC to Win7 so I'm in the same boat. 😞

I had some real challenges getting LV and Windows 7 Enterprise to play nice together. Installed a standard edition of Windows 7 Pro and now back to normal. I don't know how we would reconcile the two versions if these systems ever get connected to the coporate network. That's a battle for another day.
