a way to make an indicator float above tabs?

Hello,
I'm using a tabbed control, and in the front panel I want a string control to be located on the tabbed control, but not disappear when I select a different tab.  In other words, I want the string control to actually be in the same geographic area as the tabbed control, but still be visible while switching tabs, kind of like it were "floating" about the tabbed control.  Is there a way to do this?  I didn't really see any option in the string control properties, although I could have sworn I saw an application where someone did this before.

Place your control on the front panel but not on the tab. Then, after you select it, move it where you want with the arrow keys on your keyboard. You will see a border around the control but that disappears when you run the VI.
