Please don't abbreviate words (like fr instead of for). This isn't text messaging. Abbreviations are harder to read.
Also, sentences end with a single period followed by two spaces. And the first letter of the first word of the next sentence is capitalized. Putting in an endless series of periods with no capitalization makes your whole message read like one run on sentence.

Ravens Fan,
I am glad I am not the only one who remembers my grammar lessons. Have you noticed that the reply editor is not very comfortable with two spaces between sentences? Especially if the sentence ends at the end of a line like this one.

Edit: Spacing and format in the Forum is not the same as in the editor.

I can't say I've seen any issue with the editor with two spaces between sentences. I often see problems where if I put an extra blank line between paragraphs to improve readability, the blank line might disappear when it posts. And sometimes after some editing, the spacing between paragraphs might grow to be 2-3 blank lines in between. Almost like the HTML display treats the lines like a double spaced document.
I learned that two spaces separate sentences. Though you never see that when you read a newspaper. In reality, it doesn't bother me if someone in the forums uses one or two spaces between sentences, and I am not likely to notice. But, I do find it very annoying when people insist on doing this "text speak", and stringing along sentences with repeated periods, and not bothering to capitalize. Basically, they make no attempt at some basic rules of grammar. It is like they are text messaging a friend rather than taking some care to write a clean, clear, readable message. And I find that the lack of care on their part is very rude and unprofessional. They want other people to help them with their problem, yet they don't give any common courtesy and respect that is deserved by presenting their message in a clear, professional manner.

I agree.
What I see in the editor is that when the end of a sentence occurs at the end of a line and you put two spaces after the period is a space at the left edge of the next line. Somewhat like this.

I see what you mean. Once I resized my IE window a bit narrower so that the new word would jump to a new line, I could see it in your message. The weird thing is that in my message, the first word of the new sentence was left justified like it should.
So I looked at the HTML code. Right before my "Almost like" I see a " " So non-breaking space code then a normal space. Right before your "Somewhat like" I see " ". The plain space first then the non-breaking space code. Why yours would be different than mine, I have no idea.

I am using Safari on a Mac, although I do not know why that would make a difference. Does the editor run on Lithium's server or in the browser? That stuf is way outside my expertise.

No, sentences end with a single period followed by one space. Atleast that's what we learned in school. One or two spaces feel rather irrelevant though, but when people put a space before the period i cringe.

Hi,
"sentences end with a single period followed by one space. Atleast that's what we learned in school."
Yes, that's what I learned in school too (independently from used language). I already wanted to ask if there are different rules taught in US schools

A new paragraph is often written with a small indentation though, typically 2 spaces worth, but that'd been from machine typing class or something. 😉

We learn it in typing class that you follow a period (and other sentence ending punctuation marks) that it is two spaces. Of course, when handwriting, there really is no such concept as one or two spaces, it is just space.
