assorted screws nuts washers and bolts sorting using image processing

Hello all,

I am trying to implement a program to sort few assorted screws nuts bolts and washers. i want to develop an automated system which can recognize what is what, like M3/M2 screw, what size the washer and bolts etc. 

i want to take a ( webcam) picture of them laid out on a white paper spaced well and the picture transferred to labview to identify the items and sort them into their respective bins. best would be a live video to identify the items

how can this be achieved, i donot have the image processing toolkit.

any ideas, (even if no image processing is used)?

also is it possible to mechanically sort the items into different bins based on their type?
