backwards compatability

Just wondering if Lab View versions are foward compatable.  I have some VIs that were built with version 6 on windows ME and will be upgrading to a machine running version 10 with XP.

Thanks.

Generally, yes you can convert an older version to a newer one wth few, if any problems. There are always exceptions though and you can browse through the upgrade notes. If you could provide details on what kind of hardware you might be using, toolkits, ActiveX, CINs, property nodes, etc., you would get a better answer.

To full version compatibility matrix can be found here.

You can see that LabVIEW 2010 can open everything from LabVIEW 6.0 upwards. As Dennis said, you might possibly get some slightly broken VIs, but typically everything should work directly.

The OS is irrelevant. You can even open VIs that came from a mac or from linux.

If you have any DAQ hardware that you want to transfer to the new system. It could be some problems. But that may be solved. However the best thing will be to update this hardware also.

Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

I am using the NI PCI 6533 card (DIO 32 bit) and would like to retain it (so I do not have to change cables or any of the VIs) if possible, any ideas if this will work ok with version 10?

According to this site http://sine.ni.com/psp/app/doc/p/id/psp-415/lang/en  your  NI PCI 6533 should be compatible with both DAQMX and Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy). In order to use your old VIs. You must install the Traditional NI-DAQ driver http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/14914

I think this information should be correct but call your NI office and ask them about this. Just to be sure;)
