can I select any PFI pin as the source for WFTRIG on a PCI-6711?

I am trying to externally digitally trigger the output of a waveform on my 6711 board.

I am using Cont Generation - E-series D-Trig.vi.

In order to use that code on my non-E board (6711), I found document 1YBFBIQI. In it, it states that to use the code on my 6711, I should set trigger or gate source spec control to PFI #6.

But in my 6711 manual it states (p 4-11 WFTRIG Signal) that I can select any PFI pin as the source for WFTRIG.

I thought PFI6 had a fixed association with WFTRIG only when it is an output (as per p4-11 WFTRIG Signal). Could you please explain?

Thanks.

Jeff,

You are correct. Any PFI pin on the PCI-6711 can be the source of the WFTRIG signal. The KnowledgeBase to which you are referring instructs the user to change the PFI pin number from 0 to 6 because PFI0 does not exist on the PCI-6711. I am sure that the author of this document chose PFI6 because, more often than not, a user will not want to both input and output the WFTRIG signal.

Good luck with your application.

I need to correct myself. PFI0 does indeed exist on the PCI-6711. However, the heart of the answer remains the same.

If PFI0 exists, why does the code need to be changed to use PFI6 instead of PFI0? Thanks.

It doesn't need to be changed. The VI will execute correctly with PFI0.
