converting or leveraging off the old versioned source code

Hi All,

We have 10 year old VI file, and we want to leverage off the code to build it with newest version of labview (8.2). When I try to open it with v8.2 it gives an error that the file version is too early.

Thanks,
Jay

This has cropped up before, at http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=93218

The answer then was to get the (free) NI toolkit to do the conversion, part number 776874-03

You could also search the NI site for the part number - hopefully the kit is still available and useable!

Rod.

Hi Jay,

if the vi is not too big you can also attach it here in the forum - someone else may do the conversion for you...
I can offer conversion starting from version 4 (and if I find an old computer I may also install LV3.1 to load some very old files :-).
Best regards,
GerdW

Thanks guys for timely responses. I dont want to bother you GerdW to convert whole thing. The files are versioned 3.1 and VI file is 800KB, LLB file is 500KB. I sent e-mail to NI to provide me with the conversion toolkit, let's see if they have one that can do the job. Attached is the error message I get when I open the VI file.

I have an update to this problem, apparently, there is no conversion tool that would convert old versions to v8.2! there is one to convert to v6, another one to convert from v6 to v7, and that's it. after v7, they made lot of changes especially to drivers etc. so i guess i'll just start converting block by block to the latest version. any pointers and tips are appreciated.

thanks all,

jay

Hi jay,

with LV8.2 you (should) can load vi from versions back to LV4, so you only need a tool to convert from LV3 to LV4! Just give it a try!
Best regards,
GerdW
