counting people

i want to show a working concet in labview for counting people using a
video camera which project the entrance of a building in an angle
from front and not from top.

as i need only showing working concept i wanted to use labview as the
tool for examine my work.

I am having a confusion of which VMD? Pattern recognition? measurement
algorithms? Toolbox? i should choose

two main problems are
1. as i am shoting from front how can i know when did the person or
people crossed specific distance which from my point of view equal an
enterance.
2. how do i lock on more then one object
3. Is there a trial code in labview which i can play with testing it
which does this.

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. From your applications description, this sounds like an application that would be best performed using Pattern Matching or blob analysis. Both of these functions are available in our Vision for LabVIEW module.

We do not have an evaluation version of Vision for LabVIEW available for download, but you can try out Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (VBAI). This is another software package we develop that performs many of the same functions that you can accomplish with Vision. If you are just interested in playing around with some images and seeing what can be done, then you might look at this software and see if you will be able to accomplish your goal of counting people. You can learn more about VBAI at the f
ollowing website:

Some of the issues that I see that will pose a problem is, like you asked, trying to analyze depth in a 2-D image when you cannot use the size of the object as a starting point since obviously that will vary. Also, this analysis runs frame by frame, so you will need to find a way so that you do not count a person numerous times and how to deal with recognizing them as they shift/turn towards and away from the camera.
