customize plot legend

Hello all, I am trying to customize a plot legend. Changing the color to transparent gets me only to the point where the pseudo-3d effect of the surrounding box is gone. How do I get rid of the hole around the plot sample in the legend? I want it to look like a simple plot with, at most, a box around the entire legend. Thank you very much.

If you don't want to view the plot legend at all, right mouse over the graph, choose visible items, and shut the legend off. If you don't want to see the grey area around the graph, select the paint brush, chose transparent, click on the graph grey area and it will "disappear". Check the attachment and let me know if this is what you are looking for

Select the graph control, and go to menu Edit>Customize control...
Switch to Edit mode, and select the graph pane.
Use the paint tool to change the border color (press the space bar to toggle color selection..). This will affect also the legend pane.
Don't forget to save your artwork after 🙂

Thank you very much for the quick replys. However, I have been through both solutions offered (I would not have bothered registering for a trivial problem). The tansparent graph panel actoally led me to the original question. If I change the legend color to the background, I still get that silly pseudo-3d effect. If I change it to transparent, the "recessed" box around the line sample still remains. I'd like a plain legend with the plot name and line sample on a "flat," unadorned box, similar to what Matlab, Origin or even Excel can do. Any help in this regard? Cheers.

Hello asche,

why don't you use the old style controls? They don't have those "silly" 3D effects. They only have a rectangular box around the graph (or legend, or palette, etc.) which you can make transparent easily.

Never occured to me... But, it still leaves a "recessed" box around the line sample. It seems to me that I had seen that kind of behavior before, on a text box, maybe, and then finally given up on making the UI look nice or tried something else. I tried to peel out these boxes in the customize dialog, but it does not allow for detail work. Essentially only large areas and the ticks and text can be changed. Is this an unreasonable request? Cheers.

Hello asche,

I justed tested it:
I can make everything transparent, so that you only see the text and the line of the legend...
I only used the color tool to do so.
Oh wait: to remove the box around the line style of the legend you have to make the border of the
graph display transparent. It seems to use the same setting: graph fore- and background is the same
like legend plot style... I made a picture to show this behaviour.
So it seems that NI has to change a setting in LabView for the next version...

Hallo GerW!
That is what I was looking for - and not. It has the right effect on the legend. It's too bat that it cannot be done separately. I will have to work with rectangles to achieve the right background for the plots. Thank you so much for the quik response. Cheers, Andre
