datalogic scanner

Hi all,

I've recently been asked to write software on a handheld barcode scanner device.  It's running WinCE 5.0, and has an Intel X-Scale processor.  As such, it seems to fulfill the requirements for running with the LabVIEW PDA toolkit.

I have a couple of questions.......

How likely is it that the PDA toolkit will support this device?  IT's specifications are listed HERE.

The device comes with an SDK for WinCE.  I've just noticed that the SDK has a set of ActiveX controls included.....  Can I use these to program on a host machine and then run on the device?  I've never used the PDA toolkit before......

Thanks in advance for any help offered.....

Shane.

I am not an expert in PDAs, but I think you can do it.  WinCE is a valid platform for the PDA toolkit and this uses that.  Accessing the special features (the scanner itself) may be difficult but I think it can be done.  And once you understand it, it will appear easy Smiley Wink

Talk to your FSE to make sure (and maybe get some demo SW).

Hope that this helps,
Bob Young

I've since talked to NI Switzerland, and they have informed me that it's "theoretically" possible.  The Scanner can be controlled via an ActiveX control, so I think that would have been no problem whatsoever.

I was more or less told that there'd be no kind of support from NI as they don't have many people with experience (?!)....

I've shifted to C# (I'm a total Newb).  It was a bit easier to learn that I thought since the project is relatively uncomplicated.

How did you start programming on the Datalogic device? I have to make a program in C# on the DL Memor, but i don't know how to start. I've downloaded an SDK, but it's for C++ stuff and i can't figure out what to do with it..

I didn't start programming on the datalogic device.

We actually changed to a different device.

But the best way is to get Visual studio 2005 or 2008 (The professional version is strongly recommended) and start a Winbdows CE (OR Windows mobile depending on what's on your PDA) and just start programming.

You can make a reference to the SDK from within the visual studio environment.

As per the instructions provided by you, after scanning the programming barcode, we have activated it, but when we scan the barcode, the machine does not show the scanned barcode on the display. If you mark all the steps step by step. Kindly request your help in dealing with this issue.
