driver station isn't connecting to roborio

the robot is connected through the ethernet cable but the comm light is off. When we look at other troubleshooting no one talks about if the light is off. We know it means theyre not communicating so how do we fix this.

It may be that the roboRIO can't find the network, which should be the same one that your PC is using.  When both are plugged in, open MAX and search for Remote Systems.  It should (?!?) find your roboRIO.  The roboRIO might come up with a Link-Local address in the 169.254.x.x range -- if it does, you might be able to change the IP to something that is on the same sub-net as your PC (for example, if it's a Laptop on a home WiFi system using 192.168.x.x, you could choose an unused address in the same sub-net as your laptop).
