editing lvm-files in excel

Hi. I want to edit lvm-files in excel and after this read them in LabVIEW with the lvm read Express VI. But when I save the file in excel I can't read it anymore in LabVIEW and the data isn't read properly respectively. Obviously there's a loss of information because I don't use the correct file format. Which format do I have to use or how else can I read edited files in LabVIEW? Thanks for help!

You can't read them with the LabVIEW function because you probably saved the lvm file as an Excel formatted file. An lvm file is a text file and you need to do a save as and select the type to be Text (tab delimited).

I tried this and was able to reproduce your problem and fix it.What I did was,

1. Make sure that the delimiter setting was set to tab inside the read vi.
2. Made sure my decimal point setting was correct.
3. made sure that when saving the file, when excel asked to keep the settings I said yes and saved as a .txt file. do not save it as a .xls, you will not be able to read it correctly (At least i could not get it to) You could also save it as a .csv if you want.
4. Made sure my convert from dynamic data was set to 1darray of scalar automatic.

after all these changes I was able to read the file correctly after editing with excel. I think the biggest thing though was the way I saved the file.

Hope this helps

Hi. I had already considered your advices 1,2 and 4. Actually the key point was the format. I changed to .txt and now it works fine. Thank you!

Well, my joy was too early. 😞
I saved data in LabVIEW and afterwards opened the created lvm-file in excel. Then I saved the file in txt-format, tab delimited. Opening the lvm-file in LabVIEW displays the correct data, but trouble occurs when displaying the txt-file. What's the mistake?
I will add the two data files and a VI to read these files, so you can reproduce the problem.
Thank you for help!
