email won't go. Peer closes

Have confirmed I have a working SMTP connection.  Email of recipient is correct.  When my vi goes to send the email, I get an error message saying the 'network connection was closed by the peer'.  My IT folks are at a loss and so am I.

You haven't provided enough information to help.

What type of server are you connecting to?

What port number are you using to connect to the server?

Does this server require SSL?

Are you trying to include an attachment?

Thanks for the reply.  As I figured, it was firewall on my IT side.  It only took them 6 hours to turn it off!

FYI there is this example that can be useful when you need to communicate with an external email server (GMail) or need to use Authentication.

Yes, I had already checked that out.  As a result of everything looking fairly straight forward, and also that I had it working earlier last year, it didn't make sense.  Once you fingure in IT, everything makes sense!
