LabVIEW 7.1(.1) actually predated the release of Tiger, so naturally, LabVIEW was not tested for it. After the release of Tiger, the behavior that vivi described was reported, and as Lynn mentioned, the issue was fixed for LabVIEW 8. Apologies for the inconvenience, but you should still be able to browse to the examples and open them manually in LabVIEW 7.1(.1).
