find my Labview license type

How do you find the Labview version type from a Labview installed PC. In other words, from the user agreement, what type of license is installed.

(A) Named User License

or

(B) Computer-Based License

or

(C) Home Usage Exception

Who did the installation?  Ask them.  Alternatively, give NI a call and ask there -- someone at NI will know where to look.  If all you want to do is to learn LabVIEW by writing LabVIEW programs and trying them out, I'm reasonably sure that you could use a friend's Laptop that has LabVIEW installed and run their copy of LabVIEW, develop and test your code, and even take the VIs that you write with you on a Thumb drive.  The License is for the installation.

Note that I do not intend this to be a definitive answer -- the Installer or NI would be your best source for this.

Others and myself have been installing Labview for years, doesn't mean we understand the license agreement. It's more likely, IMHO, that someone (desktop help) at NI will have to ask around as I'm doing here.

The question is where do I find the license type on an installed Labview version. Does the license type appear to the user or is it shown in License Manager or is it stored at NI for customer records/support only.

Well, I looked up the Help on the License Manager, and it shows me icons for Local Licenses, for the Volume License Server and its Groups, and for Volume Licenses.  On my machine, my license is listed as a Local License in License Manager (which I think means that the PC, not the User, is licensed).  Note, however, that as part of the Activation Procedure for this license, I did log into NI and say "I am the licensed End User", so this license on this machine is associated somewhere at NI with my NI "Identity".

And that's the problem, determining a Named User License or a Computer-Based License. So which one is it, how do you identify one or the other. How do you make that determination?

You must call NI License specialist to determine your license type.

Named User License Type - most likely user license, 1 user session (computer login & password). Install on up to 3 PC & a home install. Other user/developers may use the login password. A second simultaneous user/login needs a second license.

Computer Based License Type - most likely a volume license type. Uses multiple user login password on multiple PCs. No limit on PC access to the development software...

The NI license agreement is very spotty of making this point clear....

Your local sales representative is probably the best person to talk to about this. It does get a bit confusing, especially when working with Volume Licenses, becuase of how many options there are and because it usually ends with having to talk with whoever is handling the license administration.

Sales is the best because they are the ones who are most frequently talking to companies to figure out the best licensing scheme for them, which means they generally have a better understanding of all of the options. If you found some old media or just have general questions about what a particular serial number can be used for you can call in to support.
