An ASCII file is the same as a text file, I was refering to an ASCII file or a binary file which are different.
Triggering is used for synchronisation for example, ensuring that you start acquiring from all channels at the same start point.
I would recommend attending a LabVIEW training course or buying a book if you are completely new to LabVIEW as the learning curve can be quite steep if you don't have previous programming experience and you are trying to develop a full-blown application from scratch the first time.
