fpga 7852r: does it work under labview 8.2.1?

I have just bought a new pxi system with fpga pxi-7852R. I have many projects developed under labview 8.2.1 and I do not feel the need to switch to newer labview versions. I thought it was possible to update the drivers of my labview version thus to allow it to compile correctly for the new fpga. It does not seem to be possible! I'll have to update to labview 8.5.1 at least! It seems to me a very annoying thing that there are three or four new version per year with limited backward compatibility, too.

Can anyone help me please if there is any chance to use 7852R with labview 8.2.1?

Thanks in advance

m.

The problem is that the PXI board that you have bought can't be programmed with LabVIEW 8.2.1, but this is clearly written in the specification of the board and in the NI site (see this link).

Actually there is no limited backward compatibility because the applications that you developed in LV 8.2.1 can still be used with version 8.5.1, but in the old version there aren't the driver that the PXI 7852R needs.

Hey maurelek,

Generally NI hardware is backwards compatible, however, this is a special case. In order to support the new high-performance Virtex-5 FPGA used the the 7852R, we had to use the latest Xilinx compiler which is only available in LabVIEW 8.5.1 or later. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the 7852R with LabVIEW 8.2.1, but any code already written will easily port to LabVIEW 8.5.1 (or the newest version LabVIEW 8.6).

Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope this helps.
