When i use the new vi wizard , select a new fpga project -> R-series on RT pxi -> create new system
I get a pop up saying unexpected error. I have tried a repair to no avail. I have LV2010 and am looking to use a PXI-7813R
many thanks in advance

Hey Akiel
Have you tried a complete reinstall of LabVIEW rather than just a repair. Also have you ensured that you have installed compatable drivers that are required for FPGA design within labview. Below is a link that demonstrates driver compatability with LabVIEW versions.
Compatibility between LabVIEW and NI-Drivers
Finally what does your error message say specifically as this may help narrow down you to resolve this issue.

I did have it running fine under the evaluation license which expired, we then purchased the FPGA license and I have activated LV fpga , since then I have been getting this unexpected error. Will try a reinstall and let you know how it goes
THanks

Hey Akiel
As I understand it you have phoned in with this issue now and one of my colleagues is working on your problem and I will leave this in his capable hands.

I've had what seems like the the same or very similar problem. I'm running LV 2011, FPGA 2011, RT 2011.
I click on FPGA Project and create a new one; select R series on PXI; and then click on create new system. It crashes everytime at this point and an error dialog pops up (I've attached it below).
I also installed NI VeriStand FPGA Interface Tools 2010 1.1.2 because I am going to be using the FPGA with VeriStand and I thought I would see if trying to create an NI VeriStand FPGA Project would work. It crashes in the same spot as the regular FPGA Project wizard.
I have until the installer to repair the FPGA Module and LV 2011; it didn't change anything.
Do you know what the solution was for this problem? Thanks.

Hi joedowdle,
Sorry to hear that you're having issues creating an FPGA project.
To prevent this error occurring, it seems that one option that has previously been successful, was to uninstall and reinstall LabVIEW and the additional modules. I do appreciate that this would be rather time consuming, so I would like to try some additional troubleshooting steps with yourself first.
Have you been able to successfully create a standard LabVIEW project without it crashing? If so, could you please try to manually add your R-series card to it please?
On a similar note, are you able to successfully run an R-series example project? You can find one of these through LabVIEW >> Help >> Find Examples. And in the example finder go to Hardware Input and Output >> R Series >> Basic I/O, then select an example.
There are some additional steps that I'd recommend having a look at, in the R-Series user manual which I think is really useful for both explaining where your hardware should appear in the Measurement and Automation Explorer software (MAX) and how to use an example.
As you mentioned your versions of LabVIEW, FPGA and Real-Time, what version of NI-RIO do you have installed? If this is incompatible with LabVIEW 2011 and the FPGA module, this could potentially be the root of the crash. For LabVIEW 2011, you will need to have version 4.0 installed.
Best wishes,

I have repaired and reinstalled LabVIEW and the FPGA Module and it did not help. I am able to create a regular LabVIEW project and add my R-series to it that way. I can also run FPGA projects with the target set to "Development Computer with Simulated I/O."
The software versions I have are LabVIEW 2011 SP1 32-bit with RIO 4.1, FPGA 11.0.0 and Real-Time 11.0.0. One of the primary reasons why I want to get this to work is the I want to try using the VeriStand FPGA Project Wizard tool that I downloaded. I installed that to see if that would avoid a crash, but it crashes in the same place as the regular FPGA wizard.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Joedowdle,
Thanks for your responses.
If you create a regular LabVIEW project and add your R-Series card to it, or if you use one of the examples that I mentioned, do these both work without issue? Could you please try running an FPGA project with the taget set to the FPGA target project on your R-Series card. Does this produce the same error?
Kind regards,

Running an example projects works fine when ran with simulation I/O. I don't have the R-series card connected to my development computer and right now it is being used for running other programs so, of course, when I run it with the target as FPGA it says it cannot find the target.
In any case, none of them lead to a crash of LabVIEW like what happens when using the FPGA Project Wizard.

Hi Joe,
I'm looking into the behaviour you're seeing for you and I just wanted to confirm that the versions you have stated are correct. You are running:
LV 2011 SP1 (11.0.1)
LV RT 2011 (11.0.0)
LV FPGA 2011 (11.0.0)
Is this correct? If so, I intend to recreate your system as I cannot replicate the problem on my machine running all 2011 SP1 modules and my colleague Tori cannot see it running LV 2011 with all 2011 modules.
Best Regards,
Chris
