frame grabber vision 64 bit

Hello,

As we are working with very large image sizes in our test programs, we would like to know if we won't have any trouble to migrate from LabView 8.6.1 with NI Vision and Acquisition 8.6 to the new Labview 2009 64 bit and Vision modules for 64 bit. Will all this work with our current frame grabber hardware too? We are using a NI PCI1429 Full Cameralink frame grabber.

Thanks.

Btw, it would be very interesting to get confirmation from users with this same setup that they can successfully allocate very big data buffers to grab images. Because in our current software setup, labview complains about not having enough memory even when it is only using 300MB of my machine's 4GB memory. I learnt that this is due to memory fragmentation and that i has to find a contigious block of 140MB (in our case) of memory and appears to be difficult, So the real question is: does the 64 bit still want to get contigous blocks??

Hi Gerrit

You shouldn't have any significant issues with upgrading to a 64-bit setup. The NI PCI-1429 is fully supported in the latest version of Vision Acquisition software which also supports Windows Vista/7 64-bit.

Keep in mind however that Labview 32-bit running on a 64-bit windows vista/7 system can also access the full 4 GB of your system memory. So without having more then 4 GB of total available memory, it won't really make a difference. The fact that you need contiguos blocks of memory is valid for any kind of system, wheter it is 32 or 64-bit.

More information on the available memory in Labview can be found in the following KB:
