having trouble getting RPM from prox sensor

Well I've got an RPM reading finally but its VERY noisy, even when the gear is moving at a pretty constant RPM.  It jumps between what it should be (around 40-50 RPM) to less than 10.  A median filter helped a little but not much.  I attached the lv project file, its probably very messy in terms of efficient coding... I borrowed the counting compared to time method from an example code that find frequency of a digital signal.  I also attached a sample of the results in an excel file so you can see how noisy it is. It should remain close to the 40-50 mark once its spun up to speed.

Another problem I'm seeing is that the raw signal from the prox sensor drops a spike or two sometimes, but I'm not sure if thats a problem with the sensor or the NI hardware or software.

hi c ryan,

have you tried going through your code and changing the way you are doing the calculation to see if that affects the noise? as far as the spike in raw data signal, are you measuring that with a Digital Multimeter, or an oscilloscope? I tried opening your project but couldn't open the VI under your Chassis target. perhaps try re-uploading it?
