how do I turn on the execution controls

I have noticed in some of my vi's that the pause button and the little light bulb to highlight execution for debugging button are no longer visible

how do I turn these back on so I can debug the vi?

Enable the option "Allow Debugging" under VI Properties>>Execution and your pause and light bulb should come back.
