how to add a control to a Tab

Well, if they have a tool that prevents simple click and drag then I would say that is not much of a tool, wasted 6 hours trouble shooting this stupid problem. So if I wanted to turn of said auto tool how would one go about it. They don't seem to make the navigation in this thing very easy, while I do admit that making the applications is fairly straight forward and simple enough finding things is not optimal by any means.

Windows is a 64 bit extension to a 32 bit graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition. Byte that Microsoft!

I agree with you except for the fact that that tool has a different purpose, like interacting with the UI like the user would.  If I have a table I may want to drag it around, or I may want to grab the scrollbar like the user would when it runs.  The auto tool or tool selection tries to know what tool you want.

As I mentioned in my last post holding Shift and right clicking brings up the tools window.  There are ways to get at it from the menu bar but this is easier.  From there you can turn auto tool off.  It will turn back on when you restart LabVIEW unless you make that setting change in the config of LabVIEW by going to Tools >> Options and setting it there.

But as others will likely tell you, the auto-tool isn't broken or need to be turned off, it is just something to get used to.  Again I prefer picking my tool so I turn it off.

Have you done any tutorials?

LabVIEW Introduction Course - Three Hours
LabVIEW Introduction Course - Six Hours

I'm guessing that some of these basic things about how to work in the LabVIEW environment are covered in there.

The main issues is the fact that tab controls sometimes intereact in an unexpected way. Here's what I suspect happened:

  1. If nothing is currently selected, an item on the tab control (e.g. the boolean control) can be click&dragged immediately.
  2. If the tab control is currently selected, you cannot click&drag the control. If you do so, it will try to move the tab control instead, even if you click down right in the middle of the boolean.

I assume that the OP encountered case #2 and I might consider that behavior a bug. Not sure if there is a good reason why it needs to act this way.

Thanks,

Will go though it

BTW when you try to access those corses with Chrome you get a denied access due to firewall or virus, you may consider talking to the web engineers about it.

I can access the courses just fine with Chrome. You need to talk to your IT department.

I too was reluctant to use the auto tool but I've become a convert.
