sub-vi cannot be modal.
each tab will display the front panel from a seperate subvi - the idea was to break apart a large unmanageable vi into smaller subvi's.
The examples on the NI web site have all the controls within one VI.
Perhaps the solution to this problem exceeds the capabilities of Labview.
