Did you mean:

how to scan a barcode on a part, take a digital picture of the inside of the same part, and save the digital picture with the barcode number as its file name?

Or the long way is Window>Show Block Diagram.

This is basic. You really need to take one of the tutorials or classes (or even read the Getting Started with Document).

Hi

Do you need the picture of the barecode and the device. Or is it good enough with a barcode copy on a file as a picture? Take a look at this free software http://code.google.com/p/lvbarcode/downloads/list it can produce (some) barcodes in labview. You may use the Labview report tool (included in base version) for more fancy reports

Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

Thanks Dennis I will.

This barcode string input looks great, and yes we would want to only accept 8 digit numbers and nothing else.

With my limited experience, how should I proceed to get my application up and running in a short period of time?

This is a real project for a medical customer of ours.

Any advice on how to get the level of assistance I need?

It seems to me that you are getting already getting quite a bit of assistance. This forum does not exist to do all of someone's work but to provide help for someone to get over some of the humps. The fastest way for you to get your application written is to take those classes so you don't have to run to this board every time you don't understand the basics. A real project for a real customer should take into account the time required to learn a new programming language and how to use new hardware. A real project for a real customer should also take into account that it might be faster/simpler/cheaper in the long run, to sub-contract all or part of the work to someone with experience. Hiring an experienced LabVIEW user can really help for a first time user. You can advertise on the Job Openings board or check the Alliance Program for experienced developers across the world.

Hi doug-john,

If you need it to get up and going ASAP, I would recommend an Alliance partner.

If you want to learn it yourself so you can be more effective with LabVIEW, I would highly recommend taking a couple LabVIEW classes. Check out our training page - there are plenty of regional classes and even live online versions.
