image capturing using nikon d200

Hi,

I have a Nikon D200 camera. Can I use LabVIEW IMAQ toolkit for capturing images using this camera? If not what are my other options. My requirement is to trigger image capture function from a latop/desktop.

I have experience with image acquisition using IEEE 1394 toolkit from a NI high resolution camera, but I havent done it using other cameras.

Thanks & Regards,

Sandeep

Hello Sandeep,

I don't think IMAQ will work for a PTP camera.  (At least, not yet)  But we have used PTP drivers from Hytek Automation (http://www.hytekautomation.com/) with Nikon D80 cameras in the past.

The PTP drivers allowed me to remotely take and save a picture from the camera to the PC hard drive.  From there, I was able open and manipulate the image.

Sandeep,

While IMAQ does not support this protocol, there are other ways to accomplish what you want. The main problem we are going to run into is your desired triggering. You can use the third party toolkitto get the image, and once you have it in LabVIEW you would be able to process the image. I'm not sure exactly how that software works, but once you get the image into LabVIEW, we can do whatever you want with it. I'm not sure if triggering is available with that software, or if it just buffers images into LabVIEW.

This is something I might reccomend trying. I hope this helps some!
