Hi,
I am trying to install labview 2012 from the downloads section. We have a site license. The LV install (32 bit, english) works fine. Then it asks for the device drivers location. I open dcd_aug12_1.exe and it extracts files to C:\National Instruments Downloads\NI Device Drivers\Aug12\Products\ etc. When I try to select one of these directories in the installer dialog it just keeps telling me that the drivers are not at this location. How do I tell labview where the driver files are? Can I install the drivers after the installation has finished?

Yes, you can install the drivers after installing LabVIEW.
When it comes to the Device Drivers there are 2 downloaders:
dcd_feb12_1_downloader.exe and dcd_feb12_2_downloader.exe. Once I have downloaded the files (via the downloaders) I extract them to a folder ready for installation.

Yes, I have the dcd executable that those downloaders download, which extract to a directory on the hard drive "ready for installation". But the Labview installer doesn't want to recognise the directory that the drivers are in, no matter which directory on the tree I tell it to use, and I've tried all of them from C:\ down.

The simple work around: install the device drivers separately. It'll still work just fine that way.

The .zip file should be extracted directly to the <LabVIEW>\instr.lib directory. This link explains more about how to download 3rd party instrument drivers.

Also, make sure that you are extracting them to the correct version of LabVIEW if you have more than one installed.

Leah,
The OP is not installing an instrument driver he is installing NI device drivers (NI-DAQmx, NI-FGEN, NI-DMM.....)

The times when I run into issues of files not being visible to applications/installers is when I am using network drives, or trying to access a hard drive via the host of a virtual machine (VMWare Workstation/Virtual). Other than those use cases I don't think I have had any issues with LabVIEW and Device Drivers.
I appreciate how frustrating these kinds of problems can be. I am still trying to work out why an installation of Windows 7 won't run the Windows Update application.

Thanks for all the replies! I'll try installing the drivers after I've finished the install and see how it goes.
And yes, this is a new Windows 7 install. It's about as convenient as being hit by a bus. 😉

Hi,
dcd_aug12_2.exe is listed under supporting files, means is it optional to use or something like driver for languages other than English? Any difference between this and dcd_aug12_1.exe files?
