interview

Hi everyone, its been a while since I frequented this place.  You guys where helpful to me back then.

I have an interview coming up in a company, which claims to use LabVIEW, and since I have put down on my cv, that I've used LabVIEW, I am expecting a question on the topic.  This company manufacture fuel pumps, and injectors.

From the job descriptions, I have a feeling they may be interested in how I would develop their products reliability through its working life taking ino account durability and fatigue it will encounter. What equipment is out there to test and analyse fuel pump components, if any.... I'm only really familiar with pressure/temp transducers & modules.

Does anyone have any idea where LabVIEW fits in with a company like this.

Thanks for any assistance.

Labview fits into any company that requires software.  Especially test software.

As for reliability & durability of fuel pump components, those are analysis.  The only relationship with Labview would be to use it as a test software if you want to demonstrate that the reliability calculations were accurate (confidence level?) and maybe to carry some accelerated aging for durability (data acquisition).

"One-eyed" Joe Labview  is right about data aquisition.  This will be a major part.  Learn how to construct DAQ vi's by looking at examples.  Just search for DAQ and look at the analog ones.  Since you will be probably acquiring arrays of data, become familiar with array manipulation.  Finally, it would not hurt to become familiar with statistical processes, like calculation standard deviation and Cpk and such.  There is an SPC toolkit for Labview that has many good functions for statistics.

Your overall plan should be to:
1) Acquire data
2) Analyze the data
3) Make a presentation on your analysis

Hope this helps.

Excellent suggestion tbob.

I would add to that as a first item:  Find out exactly what measurements they want and why they want it (not to argue, but to understand how to better proceed with the measurements).

Thanks guys for your input, I dont think I'll be working with LabVIEW just yet, the interview was horrible.

It is my goal to work with it at some stage.

I need to research on companies that use it, and get some practice with interviews.

Thanks again for your guidance, and I'll hopefully be back in a professional capacity someday.

Cheers

Sorry to hear that.

This forum is a great place to learn.  Also have a look at the Breakpoint Forum under Rube Goldberg..  There's a lot of "inside" information there... and it is also a good place for a few laughts to help you forget about the interview.

It is here:  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=BreakPoint&thread.id=2634
