is DaqMX free?

I am just wondering if DaqMX is free. I updated my lab computer where an old version daqmx had  already been installed using a downloaded daqMX zip from ni.com, and it didn't ask me for serial number or registration. Now can I install daqMX on another computer which doesn't have daqmx? Do I need to pay for a new serial number?

Yes, NI-DAQmx and most other NI device drivers are free downloads/upgrades from ni.com.  NI-DAQmx 7.5 is the most up to date version currently available.

I guess it is free for someone who has a NI DAQ card installed in a PC. Though without a NI DAQ card the driver is of no use ?.

The older version of NI DAQ called Traditional DAQ has now a 'brother' called DAQmx. The newer DAQ cards required the DAQmx Driver. It is available for free download from NI's website. The version 7.4 and beyond of DAQmx driver even allows to simulate a DAQ Device, so that the VI's using the driver can run on a PC without requiring to have a Physical DAQ Card installed !.
