Did you mean:

labview 4 compatible with XP

Hello,

At work we've got a (very)old machine with Windows 3.11 and Labview 4.
This works fine.... but I need to build a "backup machine".

Questions:
  1. Is it possible to install Labview 4 on Windows XP?
  2. Is it possible to transfer the settings of Labview 4 to recent Labview version?
  3. Other suggestions?

Greetz,

D.

LabVIEW 4 is not supported under XP. That doesn't mean that it won't work, but it's never been tested by NI. I would suspect that your biggest problem would be any hardware drivers that you are using. You might have to install new versions of those and new versions may not support the hardware that you are using.

You can't directly import a LabVIEW 4 program into the latest (LabVIEW 8.5). The earliest version that can be imported is 6.0 so if you have 6.0 or greater, you can open it and save it, and then 8.5 can open it. The upgrade will probably work for the most part but again, it is the hardware you are currently using that will usually be the biggest problem. A bit more information on what the current program is doing and the hardware being used would be nice to have.

Additional to Dennis,

even if you change from NI-DAQ to Traditional-DAQ some hardware is not supported and there is not always a replacement for the old hardware. So you have also take the cables and connectors into your backup project.

You do not need LV 6 to convert your VIs. There is a LV Conversion CD aviable from your NI repesentative which can convert VIs from LV3 to a newer version which can be read by LV 8.5.
