labview 8, visa problems with gpib-usb controllers, Microsoft Lync pops up when "Communicate with Instrument" from MAX!

As the subject line indicates, when I try to communicate with an instrument through MAX, Microsoft Lync pops open.

This is now coincident with an acute case of Visa timeout problems in my LV8 control program.

Not sure what is going on, but suspect some recent Microsoft update with Lync is sharing a port that LV is using.  Pure speculation but I cannot run my program consistently until this is fixed.

I am using shared variables in my project, though local, not on the network.

This link shows Lync using port 5065,  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx

This shows LV 2010 Epic Server using port 5061 for Channel Access coummnication,

http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-to-use-DSC-EPICS-I-O-server-outside-the-local-subnet/m-p/870812/...

We are using an Epics server, though not the Lavbview version, we use the EPICS Ca Lab.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

Hello Jim,

That is strange behavior. What version of MAX are you using? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Lync to see if the behavior continues?  Are there any other computers with Lync on them that also communicate with these intstruments that we can try in order to see if the problem is isolated to this computer? My guess is that it will be tied to Lync regardless of computer.

Thanks for the reply.  I did uninstall Lync, it will probably be forced back upon me in the next security update.

Not at the computer now to see the version of Max.
