labview keeps crashing with when using vision VIs

Im replacing a computer which was running labview 6 or 6.5 with some code that ran great for 4 or more years.
It uses some vision VIs with a PCI 1408 image acqusition board.
It acquires images though 5 buffres and writes them to the hard drive at a rate of about 1 image a second.
The images are externally trigger off 0.

Each time I start the program, I get an error "Labview.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
If I try to debug the program, i can see  the program hits some imaq VIs before it crashes.
Labview does run flawlessly using other code that does not use the vision VIs.

Using MAX i can grab images from the board.
However, I need to run the labview code to do more complex tasks.
Even the vision assistant dosent seem to work.

I was indirectly on the phone with someone from labview and they said that there were problems with this version of vision and it would be fixed in the next upgrade. 8.3.
However, from my past expereince with NI, thats about as far as the technical support ever gets with them..   I do want a verification if this is true or not citing actual literature that shows there is a problem with vision 8.3.

Based on this previous information.. I have since then gone and installed labview 7.1 and 6 and found the programs to run with problems.  Each time the program will not trigger off any incoming pulses.  When I use imaq vision builder which came iwth 6.0, I can sometimes trigger an acquistion off each incoming pulse as it should, othertimes, it just sits unresponsive although I can see the pulses on the Oscilloscope.

AT this point, Im ready to do a full reformat.   Ive spent over 40hrs trying to get my old working programs running again and it was basically on only a two month old OS.  I want some advice before wasting more time.  What are the order of the install?

So far Ive tried
   1. removing cards and reboot
   2. installing labview 8 and drivers and reboot
   3. installing vision and reboot
   4. putting in card and power up.
   5. reboot after it automatically install the right driver.

thanks.

You might want to try the MSIBlast utilty if you're going to reinstall LabView.  Also, make sure you get rid of all the .ini files too.  (I missed those once)

Ozz,
I am very sorry you are having some issues with the Vision software.  Could you maybe provide some more information about this crash that is caused by the IMAQ vi's.  Do you know which VI's specifically are called before it causes the LabVIEW crash?  Do you remember who you talked to at NI so we could get more information about this issue?  Also what is your current Vision Software version and NI-IMAQ driver version?  This will help us find you some more information about the crash and when the fix will be made.  Thanks.
