labview trainning in Ontario

Hi,

I'm a Lab Manager, and will use Labview to operate a high pressure and temperature press. I hope to get training in Labview.

I have checked the courses offered by NI, Basic I, Basic II, Intermediate and so on...

The question is what is the level for me to use Labview to control my machine?

I live at London, Ontario, Canada.

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

I kinda miss living in London.

I'm not really sure what you mean when you ask "What is the level for me to use LabVIEW to control my machine?"  Unless you have some kind of internal qualifications requirement, you should be able to use LabVIEW to control your machine regardless of your training.

For links to training stuff, look here: http://www.ni.com/academic/lv_training/how_learn_lv.htm

There are also some LabVIEW Basics courses being run in Kitchener at the beginning of November.  Nothing closer to London unfortunately.

Hi, Patrick:

Thanks. When you come back to London, welcome to visit our lab.

I mean there are several level courses: Basics I, II, intermidiate...offered by NI

For me, I will use Labview to control/operate the machine. Sometimes, use it to reduce the raw data.

What is the courses I need to take in order to do the things above?

Besides, I hope to take an In classroom course(I am new in Labview). Do they offer such a course?

Thanks again.

I think the question to be asked is: "what course is needed to do coding  w-e-l-l?"

I think Basic I & II are okay to get o\someone up and started with Labview.  To do any editing or coding while following better coding style requires Intermediate I & II.

I'd love to visit your lab sometime.  Every once in awhile I get out to London to hit up Forest City Surplus to see if they have anything new.

If you're looking for a classroom based intro to LabVIEW, have a look here:  http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/2241

Near the bottom of the page you'll find a link to "Find a course near you".  It looks like there are some courses in Kitchener starting near the beginning of next month.

If Kitchener is too far away, consider going through some of the webcasts and tutorials that can be found on the original link I posted.

Alternatively, there's a Technical Symposium coming up in Toronto in November as well.  Those often offer instructed, hands-on sessions that can be very informative for new users.  Plus, you'll get to meet other LabVIEW programmers as well as companies that offer LabVIEW expertise and solutions.

Basics I is probably the best place to start if you're looking for a classroom experience to help you get started.  But if you just want to start poking around, you don't need to wait for the class to start.  Download a trial version and watch some of the webcasts.   Try a few things.  You might be surprised.

Thanks.

Well, if I take all of the courses you listed, it will be very expensive.

What is minmum requirement to understand Labview and use it control a machine?

It seems better for me to take Basics I first, and then study some of the webcasts as you mentioned?

Thanks.

This forum is also a great place to learn LabVIEW, but it does not replace the formal training offered by NI.

As for what hardware do you need, depends on the LabVIEW version that you plan to work with.  Do you already have a LabVIEW development software?

Have a look at this link if you are working with the later versions. http://www.ni.com/labview/requirements
