max doesn't find my compactrio

Hi all,

I've run into a problem with my cRIO and MAX since updating to LV8.5.

To sum up things :
MAX finds the cRIO on a PC with the full dev LV 8.5
MAX doesn't find the cRIO on a PC with just the runtime engine. no errors, just nothing.

ping works in both cases, firewall are down in both cases

This problem arised with the update to 8.5. Everything worked under 8.2.1. I checked the knowledge base and saw the incompatibilty between VISA 4.2 and previous RIO, but that shouldn't be the problem for me.

The cRIO is loaded with the NI-RIO 2.3.0 standard package.

On the PC, I have :
LV runtime 8.2.1
LV runtime 8.5
MAX 4.3.0.49152
NI PAL 2.1.0
NI RIO 2.3.0
NI USI 1.5.0.3128
NI VISA 4.2
NI VISA runtime 4.2

Any ideas would be welcomed !

Thanks in advance

Have you installed NI-RIO on the PC that only has the run-time engine?  You need to install NI-RIO in order to see cRIO controllers in MAX.

Hope that was the missing piece.

JMota,

Thanks for your reply.

Anyway, running the install from the NI-RIO CDs fixed the problem ! So thanks a lot !

I had set the installer to include NI-RIO 2.3, and it showed up in the software installed on the PC but something was obviously missing...
Do you know if it's possible to include everything needed for the cRIO in an installer or do I have to run the NI-RIO CDs anyway ?

I really don't know. Hope somebody can answer it.

BTW, how did you get MAX installed in the PC with just the run-time engine? Does MAX come with the run-time engine?

I wouldn't say it's part of the runtime engine, but it's definitely bundled in the installer LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe which can be downloaded here : http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/861/lang/en

It is also something you can add in the build specifications when you create an installer for your compiled VIs.

Cheers
