It can be done if you have the correct hardware. I am using SMAC voice coil actuators with a Delta Tau PMAC motion controller and Labview. The voice coil axes are just treated as servos. In other words there needs to be position feedback from your actuator, and the motion controller would adjust the drive signal to hold position or velocity.
You therefore need a driver(amplifier) to convert the controller drive signal to a level that the voice coil could use. If you have that, and some kind of position feedback device, then things will work. Voice coils are very sensitive to tuning, but can be extremely fast and accurate.
