myRIO tookit 2021 dosen't work

Solved!

I started bugging NI in 2020 about how to use the myRIO with LabVIEW 2020, and was told that they were skipping a 2020 version of the myRIO Software Toolkit, but that one was planned for LabVIEW 2021.  When 2021 came and went, I tried again, and was told it would be released "soon".

Well, it was released the same day as LabVIEW 2022 Q3!  I spent a few months trying to build a LabVIEW 2021 system with the myRIO Software Toolkit 2021, without success (problems with NIPM hanging up, "Please check your Internet connection".

Finally was put in touch with the NI myRIO Software Toolkit development team.  They told me the (perhaps only) way to install the 2021 version of the myRIO Software Toolkit was to do the following:

  1. Start with a PC without any NI software.  If you already have LabVIEW installed, you should uninstall all NI software using only NIPM.  This includes all versions of LabVIEW, Modules, Toolkits, and Drivers.  It may take several passes, depending on how many versions you have.
  2. Next, install only the myRIO Software Toolkit 2021.  This should install LabVIEW 2021 SP1, drivers, and a subset of "additional" packages.
  3. Following this, you should have a working version of LabVIEW 2021 SP1 with a working myRIO Software Toolkit 2021.
  4. Subsequently, you can install other versions of LabVIEW (including older and newer releases).
  5. I've done this successfully on two PCs.  I'm still working with LabVIEW 2019 (which has a flawed LabVIEW implementation on the myRIO, but we have developed (clunky) work-arounds, and the rest of my team is not willing/ready to migrate to LabVIEW 2021 (I had a struggle to get them to move to LabVIEW 2019).

I published a description of this method in NI's Academic Forum, devoted to myDAQ, myRIO, and Elvis.  I think I may have also mentioned it somewhere on this "regular" LabVIEW Forum.
