nidevldu Service Fails to Start Citing Dependencies. Windows 7 NI-MAX 3.02

First let me start with a disclaimer...I'm trying to get NI MAX 3.02 running on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine. The Labview version is way back to Version 7. I've had to install .NET 1.1 (a walk down memory lane) to get the drivers to even install.

NI-MAX is starting, but there are no devices shown and access to the database is not working. After some research, this is likely due to the nidevldu service not starting properly (It is set to "Automatic" start, but remains unstarted).

When I try to manually start the nidevldu service, I get this response:

"Windows could not start the nidevldu service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

So, checking the Properties, Dependencies dialog, it appears below.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, after a little more research, nidevldu is not able to start because NIPALK.SYS cannot start. The error dialog is below. What are the chances I can get a compatible NIPALK.SYS to work with my current setup?

Howdy Wiredup!

What is your reason for trying to use MAX 3.02?  Would it be possible to use a newer version of MAX for your application?

Also, what driver/version did you install to get MAX 3.02?

Barron, Thank you for your reply.

I installed LV 7 (vintage 2004) with the hopes that I could get the driver running in compatibility mode. I tried every trick in the book to get NIPALK.SYS to run under 64 bit Win7 32-bit WOW - but no go.   I was afraid to install an updated version of just MAX if my LV was still back at version 7.

I finally came to my senses and sent in an order to get my LV subscription up to date and am anxiously awaiting Fed-X. I'm guessing there's been a change or two in LabVIEW since 2004! I've got some learning ahead of me, for sure.

We might've added a thing or two to LabVIEW since version 7 Smiley Wink

Upgrading was definitely the wise choice to get things working correctly with Windows 7.  I hope you like the upgrade improvements!
