obtaining full pallette of Vision VIs

Solved!
Go to solution

I've installed LabView 2009 PDS, and also a 30day evaluation of VDM 2009 today.

Looking thru the Functions Palette, I don't see basic image acquisition VIs such as IMAQ Init, IMAQ Grab Setup, IMAQ Grab Acquire...

So I checked out MAX, my Palette Set, and the vision mnu's. Attached is a screenshot showing all of them.

The Image Acquistion subpalette, which is labeled as a question mark, points to a vision1.mnu, which I don't see in my

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\menus\Categories\VisionMotion folder...

How can I populate these subpalettes such as Image Acquisition with the VIs that I expect to see when running older versions of LabView.

(Note from MAX, that I do have NI-IMAQ 4.3 installed).

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Hi ak,

So some of the missing VI's are parts of the Vision Acquisition Software, which is not included in the Vision Development Module.  The Vision Development Module is intended for analysis and manipulation of images, and the Vision Acquisition Software is used to acquire these images.

The Vision Acquisition Software can be downloaded here. It is a bundle of three distinct drivers: the IMAQ drivers (which are used for acquisition from CameraLink and Analog cameras, which require a framegrabber), IMAQ I/O (for use with remote targets), and IMAQdx (which is used for acquisition from USB, FireWire, and GigE Vision Cameras).  The Vision Acquisition Software does require licensing, but you can download it and get a free 30 day trial, just like any of our other software.

For the motion VI's, you can download NI-Motion here.  If you'd like to use any motion hardware, then these are the drivers you would use.  If you don't have motion hardware, these drivers won't be of much use to you.

After installing these drivers and restarting your computer, you should see the VI's populate in the Vision and Motion palette.  If you have further questions, please let me know.

  Marti,

I believe I have Vision Acquistion software already installed, because I have the NI-IMAQ 4.3 drivers (see the MAX in the screen shot).

But I'm still missing basic VIs like IMAQ Grab - I think because it's looking for a vision1.mnu, but I only have vision2 thru 4 .mnu (see screen shot).

So I'm not sure how to correct the problem !

Hi,

The IMAQ Snap and Grab functions are actually found within a library called "imaqhl.llb".  Check and see if this driver is present on your system: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\vi.lib\vision\driver\imaqhl.llb. If you do have this, you can redirect the missing VI's to look here.

If you do not have this, or are still experiencing problems, go ahead and remove NI-IMAQ (Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>National Instruments>Change/Remove).  Then, reinstall Vision Acquisition Software.

I didn't see imaqhl.llb anywhere on my computer.

So I un-installed NI-IMAQ 4.3 & installed NI-IMAQ 3.5.1 (the only one I have available).

Still no imaqhl.llb. And still a question mark next to the Image Acquisition subpalette.

Inside this folder : C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\menus\Categories\VisionMotion

I see only vision2, vision3, vision4 files. No vision1 files which this Image Acquisition palette is pointing to - isn't this part of the problem ?

There is no vision1.mnu anywhere on my computer.

Maybe there's a compatbility issue with Labview 2009 & IMAQ 3.5.1 ?

Hi,

You should install the Vision Acquisition Software 2009 that is a bundle of these drivers.  It is known to work with 2009.
